Major Bury town centre road closed for up to three weeks after four water mains burst

A major road in Bury will be closed for between two and three weeks for essential maintenance work.

Angouleme Way in the town centre has been damaged after four separate water mains burst in the area.

The road will be closed in both directions between Manchester Road and Knowsley Street while engineers from United Utilities fix the issue.

Bury Council have released a statement warning drivers about the closure, which begins tomorrow (February 3).

A spokesman for the council said: "Ongoing issues and damage caused by four burst water mains mean Angouleme Way between Manchester Road and Knowsley Street must be closed to allow United Utilities to carry out repair and reinstatement works.

"The closure (in both directions) will come into effect from Tuesday, March 3.

"The carriageway is expected to remain closed in both directions for 2-3 weeks and a diversion will be in place directing traffic around Jubilee Way, Peel Way, Derby Way and Rochdale Road.

"If you must travel, please plan ahead and make more time for your journey.

"The drop-off point for those attending an appointment for a Covid-19 vaccination is the corner of Knowsley Street.
