Major Bristol road closed after sudden death of woman

Police have closed a busy Bristol road following the sudden death of a woman.

Emergency services were called to West Street, St Philips in Old Market, around 1.30pm this afternoon (Sunday, October 24).

Police vans and fire engines have been spotted at the scene near central Bristol.

The woman's death is not believed to be suspicious and her next of kin have been informed.

The road remains closed this afternoon while enquiries are being carried out on behalf of the coroner.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "At 1.30pm today emergency services were called to West Street, St Phillips following the sudden death of a woman.

"Her death is not believed to be suspicious.

"The woman’s next of kin has been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

"The road is currently closed while enquiries are carried out on behalf of the coroner."
