Major Bristol commuter route to close for a month

A busy commuter route is to close for a month - for a repairs to gas pipes. A section of the A369 at Rownham Hill, in Leigh Woods will close between June 19, re-opening on July 20.

The closure is needed to complete a £740,000 upgrade to the gas network to ensure supplies to residents and businesses in the area. The closure will be in place between the junctions of Kennel Lodge Road and Bridge Road.

A diversion will be put in place. The A369 is a busy route from North Somerset into Bristol and is used by thousands of people each day.

Wales & West Utilities programme controller Simon Lee said: “We’ll soon be working in the Rownham Hill area of Leigh Woods to upgrade the gas network. This £740,000 investment in the area will keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane in the future.

“In agreement with North Somerset and Bristol City Councils and in order to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe while we work, a road closure will be in place along Rownham Hill at its junctions with Kennel Lodge Road and Bridge Road.

"This closure will start on 19 June and end on 20 July. A diversion route will be clearly signposted.”

Traffic lights will also be in place along Rownham Hill at its junction with Bridge Road from 17 July to 10 August. Mr Lee added: "Whilst we’ve worked hard to minimise disruption we would still advise motorists to leave extra time to travel and to take alternative routes if possible.

"We appreciate that working on roads such as these is not ideal, but this work really is essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. Barring any unforeseen circumstances we expect to complete the upgrade on 10 August.”

Anyone with queries about the work can call the customer service team on 0800 912 2999 or contact enquiries@wwwutilities.co.uk.
