Major blow for Airdrie as director quits after 40-year association

Airdrie have been dealt a major blow with news that director of football Stuart Millar has stepped down.

Millar on Saturday ended a 40-year association with the New Broomfield club, having signed there as a player in 1981.

Declining to provide reasons for his departure, Millar said that it was the 'appropriate time'.

Millar was appointed director of football in March 2019 and he was already a familiar face with Diamonds supporters.

Coaching spells at Stranraer and Ayr led to Millar being appointed head coach at Clyde, and he had also spent time as a scout at Ross County, Aberdeen, West Bromwich Albion and Dumbarton, which allowed him to build vast contacts within the game.

Millar had been director of football at Stranraer before taking up the post at Airdrie.

When he joined Airdrie as a director, Millar said he was 'living the dream', adding "everybody knows the passion that I have for Airdrieonians and I'm delighted to be here."
