Major Alton Towers ride closed until further notice

Alton Towers have confirmed that one of their major rides is closed until further notice.

The Wicker Man has been closed for several days - with lots of people commenting on social media about the out of action ride.

It's not known when the ride will re-open, but Theme Park bosses have said they're working to re-open it as soon as possible.

A spokesperson for Alton Towers Resort told Derbyshire Live : "Wicker Man is undergoing maintenance and is currently unavailable. We are working to open it as soon as possible. We apologise to our guests for any inconvenience caused.”

Derbyshire Live has also asked Alton Towers if it can provide more information about the work taking place and the reasons why it has closed during a traditionally busy period.

The rollercoaster opened in March last year to great fanfare.

The six-story wooden rollercoaster, which features an impressive human face on one side and ram’s head on the other, was in development for the last four years before it opened to the public.

Yesterday, a woman wrote a comment on the Alton Towers Facebook page which said: "Wicker Man been closed since Thursday we went then went again on Saturday with kids, still closed."
