A POPULAR airline has relaunched flights from Aberdeen Airport to a European capital city seven months after axing them.
AirBaltic has announced that holiday-makers in the north east of Scotland will be able to travel directly from Aberdeen to the Latvian capital of Riga next summer.
It comes after airBaltic cancelled its routes between Aberdeen and Riga in February due to a shortage of planes.
The airline had sold tickets for its summer flights but had to shelve them due to engine maintenance delays.
However, airBaltic revealed that the direct service between the north east airport and Latvia will resume in June 2026.
The seasonal service will run twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the summer next year.
Chris Tibbett, aero director at AGS Airports, said the Airbus A220-300 will be used for the flights as he hailed the "fantastic news”.
He said: “We are thrilled to welcome airBaltic back to Aberdeen International Airport.
“The return of this direct service to Riga is fantastic news for both leisure and business travellers and further strengthens our connectivity to eastern Europe.
“The use of the Airbus A220-300 also reflects our shared commitment to more sustainable aviation.”
Mantas Vrubliauskas, VP network management at airBaltic, said the reintroduction of the flights was due to the growing demand.
He said: “Demand for our services in the United Kingdom continues to grow, and we are pleased to resume direct flights between Aberdeen and Riga for the upcoming summer season.
“This connection will once again provide convenient access between the north east of Scotland and Latvia, while also offering excellent onward connectivity to Estonia, Lithuania, Finland, and Scandinavia.”
