Major 13 Reasons Why character won't be back for season 3 on Netflix

"Welcome to your tape."

Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) was the driving force of the breakout hit first season of Netflix teen drama 13 Reasons Why.

The series originally centred on Hannah Baker sharing 13 tapes with 13 people who she believed contributed to her eventual suicide and she explained their role in her death before killing herself.

The character appeared through flashbacks and dream sequences in season 1 before returning in season 2 as a ghost too.

However, in the season 2 finale the character appeared to be laid to rest for good as her spirit seemed to leave this mortal coil and was finally at peace.

It has been confirmed that Langford will not be reprising her role as Hannah in the third season, which will focus on a whodunnit surrounding the murder of her rapist, villainous jock Bryce Walker.

While we are sure that Hannah will still be mentioned by her beloved Clay Jensen ( Dylan Minnette ) and friends, and maybe even have a small cameo in the third or fourth season, it really is the end of Hannah's story.

Hannah departed in the 13 Reasons Why season 2 finale (Beth Dubber/Netflix)

Hannah's mother Olivia ( Kate Walsh ) is also not expected to return for the third season either.

Writing on Instagram last year about leaving Hannah behind, Katherine Langford wrote : "Hannah...I love you...and I let you go" Those are the words I was able to say six months ago, and now can finally share with you...As most of you know @13reasonswhy was my first ever job and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to tell Hannah's story so fully in season 1, and to be asked back for a season 2."

We'll have to wait and see who killed Bryce in the new episodes, but some worked it out.

13 Reasons Why season 3 is released on Netflix on August 23, 2019.
