Maitland tops week's petrol price rankings

Maitland recorded the state's cheapest average unleaded petrol price last week, according to the latest NRMA data, with Muswellbrook contributing to the Hunter Region's strong showing in the rankings by coming in third.

Of the 57 locations surveyed across the state, Maitland topped the rankings for the week ending January 31, with an average regular unleaded price of 110.2 cents per litre - a little more than seven cents per litre better than second-placed Gunnedah.

Muswellbrook was only 0.1 cents per litre behind Gunnedah's average to be ranked third with 117.9 cents per litre.

Singleton recorded an average price of 119.3 cents per litre while Newcastle's average was 123.5 cents per litre.

The average on the Central Coast was 130 cents per litre, at Bulahdelah it was 124.2 and at Taree it was 120.7.

Tweed Heads South, on the NSW north coast, had the week's most expensive average at 152.1 cents per litre, well above the next dearest - Sydney - which posted a price of 139.5 cents per litre.

Sydney's price was a drop of more than five cents per litre from the previous week.

Prices in the Hunter stayed relatively stable - Singleton recorded no change from the prior week and the remainder of average prices in the Hunter moved less than 1.5 cents per litre during the period.

The figures came from the NRMA's latest weekly petrol report, which monitors prices across the state.

The report said average unleaded prices across regional NSW, on the whole, increased by 0.6 cents per litre for the week ending January 31, compared with the previous week.

"Over the previous week: The average crude oil price in the Asian market fell 0.1 cents per litre and Sydney's Terminal Gate Price for regular unleaded rose 0.9 cents per litre to 113.5 cents per litre," the report noted.
