Maitland's Imperial Hotel changes hands in 'discreet off-market sale'

NEW HANDS: Thornton's Alex Wilmore behind the bar at the Imperial Hotel in 2018.

A MAITLAND pub has changed hands in a "discreet off-market sale", agents have confirmed.

The Imperial Hotel in central Maitland was last sold in 2017, when it was purchased by Imperial Hospitality Group.

It has now been sold to Newcastle-based hospitality management firm Hunt Hospitality for an undisclosed sum, joining a stable of Hunter watering holes that include The Kent, The Duke, Seabreeze Hotel, Finnigans and the Ocean View Hotel.

The Maitland pub, which was built in 1951 and backs onto the Hunter river, has also traded as Irish pub Shenanigans.

It was refurbished after the previous sale, winning NSW Australian Hotels Association awards for its redevelopment and accommodation.

The Imperial joins the Hunt stable, which include The Kent, The Duke, Seabreeze Hotel, Finnians and the Ocean View Hotel.

"I am delighted to add the Imperial to our fund of hotels and am really looking forward to making this hotel an integral party of the Maitland community by offering an upgraded food and beverage offering and sponsoring many different community, sporting groups and charities from the local area," Hunt Hospitality's Steve Hnt said.
