Maisie Smith defends 13-year age gap with Max George as mum 'hasn't seen her so happy'

Maisie Smith has defended the 13-year age gap between her and Max George during their first joint interview as a couple on Loose Women.

The pair looked madly in love as they chatted to I'm A Celeb's Charlene White and the rest of the panel.

Max, 34 and Maisie, 21 have come under questioning over their huge age gap, but have consistently defended themselves against the criticism.

Maisie took an opportunity to speak about it on the show, telling the Loose Women: "The people that we allow in our lives are happy,"

She added: "Mam has never seen me so happy. That’s all that matters to me."

Max agreed: "It's a shame when headlines are written, I think they are trying to make it look like I've done something wrong.

"And I find that a little bit sad they do that, because it kind of drives people to jump on that," he explained.

Maisie said that she and Max were pals before taking their relationship to the next level, adding that they "always had a nice bond".

Speaking about how they went official on social media Max explained: "Speculation drove that more than we would have at the start, but once it was out there, we do everything out here, it was kind of like it's out there.

"If we do something we may as well put it out there because there is nothing we don't do."

On the show Max also proudly showed off a tattoo of Maisie's face that he had on his arm.

The inking was half of Maisie's face and the other half a lioness, where he admitted that he "went in at the deep end".

"It’s only little though," he joked on the show, with Maisie adding: "I made sure he picked a nice picture. I was not turning round and it was some dodgy candid photo he’d taken of me, I picked the photo."

"I would have been in trouble!" Max said.

"I wouldn’t wanna look at me on you," Max joked.

Max and Maisie both took part on the Strictly Come Dancing tour in 2021 and were reportedly dating shortly after.
