Mairead Ronan reveals she celebrated her Dancing with the Stars win with a McDonald's

Forget champagne and caviar! Dancing With The Stars’ champs Mairead Ronan and John Nolan told yesterday how they celebrated their triumphant win with a McDonald’s.

Ireland’s Fittest Family presenter Mairead, 38, took home the Glitterball trophy on Sunday night beating Love/Hate star Johnny Ward and country singer Cliona Hagan in the final.

Following the final show of season three, the stars attended a private wrap party in Dublin’s 37 Dawson Street but Mairead and professional dancer John, 28, made a stop for chips on the way.

Finglas, Dublin native Mairead told Ryan Tubridy on RTE Radio One: “We got a McDonald’s last night, we got a Drive-Thru when we got in the taxi, we just said ‘any chance you could go to McDonald’s Drive-Thru’, he was a pretty sound taxi man.

“There’s been no healthy living.”

Many viewers saying the same thing after Mairead Ronan pips Johnny Ward in Dancing with the Stars final

The former Today FM producer, who told how she cut Kilkenny man John’s face during one of their three dances Sunday night, said she’s looking forward to spending time with her children - Dara, 11, Eliza, 2, and seven- month-old Bonnie.

“I’m going to reacquaint myself with the kids, and I’ve to move house in a few weeks as well so that’s going to be in the middle of everything and hopefully back with Ireland’s Fittest Family soon.”

Mairead, who gave birth to Bonnie last August, revealed that she’s “half the size” she was when training for the show kicked off.

The winners said they’ll also mark their win with a spice bag, as John admitted: “We didn’t have time but we’re going to have a spice bag party at some stage during the week.”

John said he has been extremely emotional since hosts Nicky Byrne and Jennifer Zamparelli called out their names.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar congratulates Mairead Ronan after Dancing with the Stars triumph

“I woke up this morning bawling my eyes out, watching back on videos of the results and the celebrations from everybody, getting videos of the dance school and their reaction, absolutely bawled my eyes out for a solid hour this morning.”

Following their radio interviews yesterday Mairead and John carried on the celebrations with a fancy lunch in Dublin’s Ivy restaurant with pal Anna Geary, who took part in last year’s Dancing with the Stars and pro dancers Kai Widdrington and Giulia Dotta.

The celebrities and dancers of this year’s show attended another bash last night in 9 Below, St Stephen’s Green, to celebrate the success of series three.

Meanwhile, Dubliner Johnny Ward told how he plans to take some time out after reaching the final of the show - just weeks after the death of his dad.

The former Fair City star, 31, said: “I’m going to take a bit of time out and be there for my mum.”

Fellow finalist country singer Cliona Hagan, 30, from Co Tyrone is gearing up for a new tour kicking off in April as well as an appearance on the Late Late Show country music special.
