Main route to M32 to be hit by 24 weeks of roadworks

There is set to be months of disruption on a main commuter route through Bristol.

Extensive roadworks lasting almost six months are about to begin on Ashley Road, through Montpelier and St Paul's.

The water main renewal works are being carried out by Bristol Water and are expected to go on for 24 weeks - until September - spelling bad news for regular users of the road.

The route is well-used by commuters who live north of the city centre to access the M32.

Motorists warned to expect delays as Plimsoll Bridge partially closes until next week

The works are due to start on April 1, and will see the stretch of the road between the junctions with Stokes Croft and City Road temporarily altered to a one-way system.

This will mean traffic will only be able to travel eastbound along the road towards the M32 for the duration of the renewal.

A statement on the TravelWest website reads: "Ashley Road will be on a temporary alteration of road from 2 way to 1 way from Stokes Croft to City Road in an eastern direction.

"Other roads in the area may be temporarily closed during the works."

Anyone heading away from the M32 towards Stokes Croft will need to use City Road instead.

Prisoner who escaped van on M32 was handcuffed to officer

A number of side roads in Montpelier and St Paul's will also be affected by water main works.

Lane or full road closures could be implemented in Drummond Road, Wellington Avenue, Dalrymple Road, Brook Road and Grosvenor Road. Temporary traffic lights will also in use in City Road.
