Main road through town closed off due to burst water main

A main road through Ramsbottom is closed off this morning due to a burst water main.

Bolton Street is currently shut off both ways. It is closed between Smithy Street and Callender Street, according to traffic alert service Inrix.

A stretch of Bolton Road West, where the road merges with Bolton Street, is also closed. United Utilities said repair works were carried out on the burst main overnight.

Reinstatement works are now underway. Pictures taken at the scene show cones and barriers in place around a section of the road.

A United Utilities spokesperson said: "Our teams have worked through the night on a burst main on Bolton Street in Ramsbottom. The repair has been complete and reinstatement works are currently underway.

"We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused."

A tweet posted by Bury Council said: "**ROAD CLOSURE - BOLTON ROAD WEST, RAMSBOTTOM** Water burst means the road is closed in both directions from the top of Nuttall Lane to Bolton St / Ramsbottom Lane junction. Diversion via Walmsely Road. United Utilities are on site to begin repair."
