Main road closed as person taken to hospital after crash

A main road in Merseyside was closed this morning after a car crash.

Scarisbrick New Road in Southport was forced to shut at around 8.40am on Sunday, December 19 after a white Skoda hit an island in the road during heavy fog.

Traffic report website Inrix reported queuing vehicles on the major road that carries traffic in and out of the town.

Merseyside Police were forced to shut the road going into the town from Kew roundabout.

Two police cars were at the scene this morning following the incident that involved no other injuries.

The driver was taken to hospital as a precaution following the crash outside The Richmond.
