Main Nottingham road closed as 'high gas readings' reported

A busy city road has been partially closed while emergency gas work takes place.

Colwick Road is closed at its junction with Racecourse Road, near a level crossing.

Work started on Monday (August 23) and the programme has been extended to September 1 after engineers found "high gas readings".

Cadent Gas is carrying out the work and moderate delays are expected.

A spokeswoman for Cadent said: "This is essential work on a large pipe that runs across the length of the road.

"We are working hard to repair it as quickly possible to keep gas flowing safely to the area.

"We know that closing the road isn’t ideal, but we appreciate everyone’s patience whilst we carry out this vital work."

Motorists are advised to re-route, driving along Daleside Road, through Sneinton Hermitage, to get onto the Colwick Road, and vice versa.

Nottingham City Transport said in a Tweet: "The diversion on Red 44/A in Sneinton has been extended until Wednesday 1st September.

"Buses will operate via Daleside Road and Manvers Street in both directions."
