Main Kerry road left with gaping hole after collapse

Kerry motorists were asked to avoid the N70 near Foilmore overnight after a collapse on the road on Monday night.

Emergency works were getting underway late last night after the "collapsed culvert" made for an incredibly dangerous hole in the road.

A culvert is a large pipe beneath the road which in this case had given way leading to a major hazard.

Kerry County Council said on Tuesday morning that the gap in the road had been filled after emergency works in the freezing cold overnight.

Motorists are still being asked to be careful if driving through the area however.

The council said: "Repairs have been substantially completed overnight to a collapsed culvert on the N70 Ring of Kerry road near Foilmore school. Motorists should travel with care on new surface today."
