Main coronavirus symptoms reaffirmed by Dr Hilary who says not to be alarmed by other symptoms

Dr Hilary Jones has reaffirmed what the main coronavirus symptoms are and told people not to be alarmed if they develop some of the minor ones.

As he has done every day for the past few weeks, the health expert appeared on Tuesday's Good Morning Britain to offer more advice on COVIDF-19 and take viewer questions.

Towards the end of the show, host Lorraine Kelly put viewer concerns over the different coronavirus symptoms to Dr Hilary, with a number of people now claiming to have experienced a loss of taste or smell after they contracting the virus, as well as diarrhoea and sinusitis.

Asked by Lorraine what the major symptoms are that people should be looking out for and take action against, he said " A dry persistent cough which is new , so that excludes many smokers, and then a temperature over 38 degrees that is quite long lasting. Those are the two cardinal symptoms."

Dr Hilary added "there are a lot of different coughs and colds around at the moment and these aren't too be confused with coronavirus," and advised "don't be too alarmed if you get the mild symptoms.

"Getting the two cardinal symptoms is when you need to self-isolate."

Earlier on in the show Dr Hilary issued important advice to hayfever sufferers on how to respond to coronvirus, saying: "First of all, when people get hayfever, yes it's true that the immune system is over active in producing symptoms of runny nose, sore throat and itchy eyes.

"However, it's a different kind of immunity, it's the IgE antibody which is affected in hayfever, not IgG and IgM which is the responsible antibody when you are fighting the [covid-19] virus.

"You can carry on taking antihistamines, without worrying that this is making you more susceptible to the virus."
