Maia Dunphy has opened up about her rekindled romance with Johnny Vegas after a split – but admitted she still lives like a single parent.
The mum-of-one, who has son Tom, four, with her comedy star husband, added while motherhood can be isolating, it made her realise her capabilities.
She told the RTE Guide: “It can be a lonely place – and I didn’t realise how strong I was.
“You feel you are always getting things wrong and are out of your depth.”
The 43-year-old lives in Dublin with Tom, while Johnny resides in London with his son Michael from a previous relationship.
The pair, who married in 2011, separated briefly in 2018 before reuniting last Christmas.
Admitting it can be difficult, and sometimes complicated, Maia said she has learned to “just get on with it”.
She added: “My life became more difficult than I anticipated as I was on my own so much. Those early months are so discombobulating.”
The broadcaster – who is presenting RTE’s three-part documentary What Planet Are You On? – admitted being alone has limited her in terms of work.
She added: “I live as a single parent. If Tom is in bed asleep I can’t nip out or get a pint of milk.
“I’ve turned down jobs and opportunities that I would have jumped for joy at years ago, but I just couldn’t do them.
“I would have taken those jobs if I didn’t have Tom but I don’t regret it because, quite simply, Tom is more important than any job.”
