Japan's Mai Murakami took the bronze medal in the women's floor event in artistic gymnastics on Monday, with a total of 14.166 points.
This marks the first time in 57 years that a Japanese woman has earned a gymnastics medal. Japan's last women's gymnastics medal was at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, which was also the first time that the nation reached the podium in gymnastics.
Murakami finished fifth in the women's individual all-around, and was also among the members who collectively finished fifth in the women's team event.
