Mahrez and De Bruyne start — Man City predicted line up vs Club Brugge in Champions League

Manchester City will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they face Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Pep Guardiola's side have suffered a difficult week, as they finally surrendered their grip on the Carabao Cup after West Ham became the first team to knock them out of the competition in over five years.

Another loss followed on Saturday when Crystal Palace visited the Etihad, with goals from Wilfried Zaha and Conor Gallagher seeing City slip five points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea.

A strong response is paramount on Wednesday, as the Blues can go within a point of qualifying for the knockout stages should they defeat Brugge again.

City had little trouble in doing so a fortnight ago when they comfortably won 5-1 in Belgium and a similar result would help to forget the past week.

Guardiola has a bit of a dilemma on his hands with his team selection, though.

Does he name his strongest side so they can stick a few past Brugge and get a bit of a confidence boost? Or does he rest some of his most important stars due to the quick turnaround for the Manchester derby, which will kick-off at 12:30pm on Saturday?

It's a fine balance that the manager will have to strike but, either way, Ederson is guaranteed to start in goal.

There could be a couple of changes at the back, however, with Aleks Zinchenko coming in at left-back to afford Kyle Walker a rest, with Joao Cancelo picking up mid-week duties this time around. Aymeric Laporte may keep his spot in the side as he will be suspended for the trip to Manchester United but John Stones could come in so Ruben Dias also gets a night off before the big game.

Kevin De Bruyne could do with all the game time he can get as he tries to wrestle out of a slump in form, but both Rodri and Bernardo Silva could be saved for Saturday with Fernandinho and Ilkay Gundogan coming into the fold.

After his brace in Belgium, Riyad Mahrez could come back in on the left of the attack with Gabriel Jesus making way, but Phil Foden and Jack Grealish may well remain in the side if Guardiola hopes to get the game wrapped up quickly.

With five substitutes at his disposal, if City race into an early lead then the boss will be able to wrap some of his most important players up in bubble wrap until the visit to Old Trafford.

Predicted Man City starting XI vs Club Brugge: Ederson; Cancelo, Stones, Laporte, Zinchenko; De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Gundogan; Mahrez, Foden, Grealish.
