Mahila Police recruitment appears to be backdoor entry, says Andhra Pradesh HC

VIJAYAWADA: The GOs issued by the state government to recruit Mahila Police prima facie appears to be in contravention of Andhra Pradesh Police Recruitment Act, said the AP high court on Wednesday.

The high court observed that it looks like the state government is doing indirectly what cannot be done directly. Observing that the petitioners made out a prima facie case, the high court said that the recruitment of Mahila Police appears to be a back door entry which cannot be allowed. Recruitment of Mahila Police in village and ward secretariats has been challenged before the high court.

The state recently issued a GO amending the earlier GO by renaming Mahila Samrakshana Karyadarshi post as Mahila Police and brought them under police department from panchayatraj and rural development department. The fresh GO is also challenged before the high court.
