Maharashtra: Three persons arrested in theft case of manhole covers in Nashik

NASHIK: The Nashik city police have arrested three persons in connection with a case of theft of manhole covers worth Rs 25,000.

Among the three persons who have been arrested one is the burglar and two sellers of scrap material.

Officials of the crime branch unit 1 said that on June 15, a theft of manhole covers in the Adgaon area were reported stolen. After a complaint was registered about the theft, the crime branch Unit 1 personnel began investigating the theft and found out that the burglar had carried away the manhole covers by an autorickshaw.

Subsequently the police succeeded in getting the registration number of the concerned autorickshaw, which the police traced in the Jail Road, Nashik Road area.

After the autorickshaw driver was detained, he gave the name of the burglar and also the persons to him he had sold the manhole covers. Subsequently, the police arrested all the three accused, recovered the manhole covers worth Rs 25,000 and also seized the autorickshaw worth Rs 1.5 lakh from them.

The police are investigating the case further.
