Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority seeks to execute 717 pending warrants for Rs 633 crore against errant builders

PUNE: The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has coordinated with 13 district collectorates, including Pune, to execute 717 pending recovery warrants, totalling Rs 633 crore, that were issued against errant developers in the last four years.

Of the 717 warrants, Mumbai suburban area leads with 302, followed by Pune (162) and Thane (99). The warrants were issued in relation to 256 projects, of which 83 are in Pune, 63 in Mumbai suburban and 41 in Thane. The other collectorates include Raigad, Alibaug, Palghar, Mumbai city, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Nashik, Chandrapur, Sindhudurg and Satara.

Sources said MahaRERA chairman Ajoy Mehta has initiated talks with the revenue secretary and some district collectors to execute these orders as early as possible for the benefit of homebuyers.

MahaRERA’s adjudicating officers issue the warrants against the developers under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act. They are forwarded to the collectors for attaching properties and recovery of dues.

MahaRERA secretary Vasant Prabhu told TOI that he would be putting up the list with the details of the recovery warrants on the MahaRERA website and the collectors have been communicated about the execution of the warrants.
