THANE: The National Highway Authority of India will start work on levelling uneven patches on the Mumbai-Nashik highway and consider barricading unmotorable stretches to ensure smooth and safe movement of traffic, reports Manoj Badgeri.
The development comes a day after a 41-year-old man was crushed by a heavy vehicle near Kharegaon toll naka on Sunday. While the highway is under NHAI jurisdiction, the task of widening and repairing it has been given to the MSRDC. The NHAI said the preliminary analysis of Sunday's incident has showed the mishap was not due to slippery road surface. "We have instructed our teams to smoothen all uneven patches along the side lanes. The sand on the surface will also be cleared," project director M Attarde said.
