Maharashtra: MVA shows signs of life in first meet after coup

MUMBAI: Embattled Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday said that while it was true that his two-and-a-half-year-old government had been dethroned, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) of the Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP was intact.

He was addressing the first meeting of the MVA after his government was dislodged by rebel Shiv Sena man Eknath Shinde, who joined hands with the BJP to form a new government.

The meeting was organised following the lead taken by NCP leader Ajit Pawar and state NCP president Jayant Patil. Besides Thackeray, the meeting was addressed by Pawar and Congress legislature party leader Balasaheb Thorat.

"When we were in the process of forming the Maha Vikas Aghadi for setting up a non-BJP government, I was told that it will be a disastrous move on the grounds that the Congress and NCP will ditch us. However, it was found that not the Congress and the NCP, but my own people ditched us for petty political gains," Thackeray said.

Pawar asked legislators to be aggressive and take on the Shinde government.
