Maharashtra: MVA parties trounce BJP in nagar panchayats of Sangli, Satara and Solapur districts

KOLHAPUR: Maha Vikas Aghadi constituent parties have emerged as the winner in several Nagar Panchayat elections from Sangli, Satara and Solapur districts.

In Sangli, except Kadegaon town, MVA parties have bagged two wins -- Kavathe Mahankal and Khanapur. In Kavathe Mahankal council, NCP panel led by Rohit Patil, 23-year-old son of late deputy chief minister RR Patil, has triumphed defeating Bharatiya Janata Party in the maiden election to the council. Out of 17 seats, NCP won 11 seats. Rohit after winning the panel said, "Our efforts to reach out to the citizens of Kavathe Mahankal and the building of the party base in the town has led to our win."

After the win, Rohit and NCP supporters visited the memorial of late RR Patil located at Anjani village in Sangli district.

In Khanapur Nagar panchayat, despite a polarised campaign, BJP had to face defeat. BJP had handed the baton of campaign to MLC Gopichand Padalkar. MVA-led panel won on all 17 seats.

In Kadegaon, the home turf of minister of state Vishwajeet Kadam, Congress had to face defeat. The town council faced the election for the second time. BJP registered the win defeating the Congress panel. Kadam had put in his all might for the election for Kadegaon Nagar panchayat.

In Satara, minister of state for home Shamburaj Desai had to face defeat for Patan Nagar panchayat. In Koregaon Nagar panchayat, Shiv Sena trounced the NCP panel led by Shashikant Shinde.

In Solapur, Vairag Nagar panchayat went to NCP and Madha to Congress.
