Maharashtra: MNS MLA demands govt to withdraw cases filed during protests to rename Navi Mumbai airport

KALYAN: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena MLA Pramod (Raju) Patil on Saturday demanded chief minister Eknath Shinde and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to withdraw cases filed by MVA government during the protests called for the naming of Navi Mumbai airport.

He also welcomed the state government's decision about clearing a proposal to name the upcoming Navi Mumbai international airport after late D B Patil.

The state cabinet on Saturday cleared a proposal to name the upcoming Navi Mumbai international airport after late D B Patil, who had led several farmers and landowners protests in Panvel district when the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) had acquired land in the area in the 1970s and ’80s.

An earlier proposal to name the airport after Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray had sparked widespread protests for almost over a year in Navi Mumbai, Raigad, Thane, and Palghar districts during which several FIR was registered against protestors.
