NASHIK: A three-and-a-half-year-old male leopard was killed in an accident on Saturday evening on the Samruddhi highway near Igatpuri in Nashik district.
The incident took place at around 9.30pm when the big cat was crossing the highway and got hit by an unknown vehicle. A forest department official said the leopard died on the spot.
"We sent the carcass for post-mortem following which the cremation was carried out as per the laid down procedure,” the forest official said.
This is the second incident about the leopard that died in an accident in the last one month.
“In the last two years, around 15 leopards have died in accidents on roads at various locations in the district,” the official said.
