MUMBAI: The home department, headed by deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, has provided special Y+ security to all 41 MLAs and 10 Lok Sabha MPs of CM Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena. Friday’s move comes at a time when it has scaled down or withdrawn the cover of MVA politicians, with the exception of former Congress CMs Ashok Chavan and Prithviraj Chavan, Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aaditya, and NCP chief Sharad Pawar.
The Z+ cover of Shinde, Fadnavis and governor B S Koshyari has also been been retained. There is no change in the Y+ cover of MNS chief Raj Thackeray, Uddhav’s wife Rashmi and son Tejas, and Shinde’s MLA son Shrikant. The security of Fadnavis’s wife Amruta has been increased to Y+ from X.
Among the MPs backing Shinde whose security has been enhanced by the state home department is Ramtek Lok Sabha member Krupal Tamane. Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare will retain his Z category cover.
The security of Justice K U Chandiwal, who had probed the case involving former city police commissioner Parambir Singh, has been withdrawn, while state BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule has been provided Y+ cover, along with escort.
The Ambani family has been provided Z+ security, while actor Salman Khan has been given Y+ security cover, along with an escort.
