Maharashtra: Farmer shocked after PM-Kisan SMS shows 1 paisa; government cites glitch

A farmer from Maharashtra, who was eagerly waiting for her stipend to be paid on time as per the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme, was in a state of shock after she received a text message indicating her account had been deposited with an amount of one paisa. She was expecting to be credited at Rs 2,000 for a particular installment.

The Agriculture Department on Tuesday stated the message was likely the result of a technical glitch and the correct instalment was credited without any problems to the farmer's account.

While speaking to reporters on Monday, 65-year-old Lakshmibai's son, Khemraj Girepunje of Jevanala village in the district, had said the entire family was flummoxed by the message about the deposition of a single paisa as an instalment into the farmer's bank account.

The family was said to be requiring financial assistance desperately for the seeds and fertilisers in view of the prevailing kharif sowing season.

The Bhandara district agriculture officer Sangita Mane stated on Tuesday that the message was likely sent due to some technical issue and records indicated the farmer’s bank account had already been credited with the prescribed instalment of Rs 2,000.
