Maharashtra: Event management firm co-owner held for harassing woman for refusing to act in ad video in Thane

KALYAN: A 27-year-old man — running an event management company — was arrested for allegedly harassing a 29-year-old woman by hiding identity for refusing to act in an advertisement video.

Gurdeepsingh Khalsa, 27, a resident of Ulhasnagar, along with his father, runs the company that organises fashion shows.

The Mahatma Phule police in Kalyan in Maharashtra's Thane district who cracked the case said that on December 27, they received a complaint from the woman residing in Kalyan alleging that for a month (since November 12) unknown persons were sending her obscene messages and harassing her by making video calls by hiding faces using virtual international numbers.

The police said after receiving a complaint they took help from Thane Cyber cell and traced two suspects' mobile number and when grilled, Khalsa on Thursday confessed to the crime.

Ashok Honmane, senior police inspector of Mahatma Phule police station, said, "The accused, who runs the event management company and organised fashion shows, had, five years ago, offered the victim a role in an advertisement video, but the girl had refused to act following which the accused took the 'revenge'."

The police have arrested Khalsa under different sections of the IPC and the sections related to the Information Technology Act. On Thursday he was produced before the Kalyan session court which remanded him to three-day police custody.
