Maharashtra: Dhule district administration gets Rs 1.24 crore scarcity plan

NASHIK: Though in the month of March there has been no scarcity of water largely due to above average rainfall in Dhule district for three consecutive years, the district administration has prepared the Rs 1.24 core scarcity mitigation plan for the year 2022-23.

So far about 10 wells have been acquired in Dhule, Sakri and Shindkheda talukas of the district.

However, the demand for tankers has not been raised in any talukas till date.

The administration expects that at least 94 villages and 25 padas in remote and extremely remote areas of the district may face shortage of water by late April and May.

Through the scarcity plan the administration has decided to undertake 119 measures to overcome the scarcity. However, no scarcity scheme has been implemented in any of the villages so far because there has been no demand for the same.

Dhule district has received more than 100 percent rainfall for the third year in a row. In 2020, the rainfall was 140 percent more than the average. As a result, the project had good water storage in 2020 and the groundwater levels were also better.

In addition, in 2021, the rainfall was 120 percent more than the average. As a result, even medium and small scale projects in the district have 50% water storage at present.

March is scarcity free for the third year in a row. In the three years 2017, 2018 and 2019, the district had to face severe water scarcity.

There is still no shortage in the village during the two quarters of October to December and January to March in the district. However, in the second quarter from April to June, there is a possibility of scarcity in 59 villages and 22 hamlets. These include Dhule taluka 12 villages, Sakri taluka 24 villages and 23 wadas, Shirpur taluka 18 villages six wadas and Shindkheda taluka 18 villages and 1 wadas. 12 schemes are proposed in Dhule taluka, 51 in Sakri taluka, 24 in Shirpur taluka and 23 in Shindkheda taluka.
