KOLHAPUR: A delegation of all party activists from Kolhapur city met district collector Rahul Rekhawar to demand revival of the Chhatrapati Shahu mill.
These activists have also demanded that for the overall development of the district, a resolution should be passed to set up one of the institutes — IIT, NIT, IIMS, IIIT or AIIMS — in Kolhapur. Rekhawar has responded positively and has assured that he will give a thought to these demands.
Former mayor of Kolhapur R K Powar said, “We have demanded that the mill set up by Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj should be revived and a 25,000 spindle textile mill should be started here in the city. The mill’s familiar siren should also be restarted. If the mill is restarted, it will automatically offer employment to hundreds of people and several families will earn their livelihood through this. Collector Rahul Rekhawar has assured us that he will think about our demands”.
Meanwhile, Baba Indulkar, an activist, said, “Despite the huge inflow of tourists in Kolhapur, which is blessed with historical heritage, religious places and natural spots, the expected development has not taken place. Kolhapur was not considered in the ‘smart city’ list of central government. Students pursuing Higher education have to travel to other cities and, therefore, a resolution should be passed for one of the institutes like IIT, NIT, AIIMS, IIMS to be set up in Kolhapur for the overall development of the district”.
The meeting saw the presence of Baba Parte, Vasantrao Mulik, Jaykumar Shinde, R D Patil, Vaishali Mahadik, Kishore Ghatge and other activists.
