Maharashtra: 3 killed, 20 injured as bus falls into valley in Raigad

NAVI MUMBAI: At least three persons were killed while 20 others sustained injuries after the bus they were travelling in fell off the road at Ghonse Ghat in Maharashtra's Raigad district on Sunday morning.

The mishap occurred at around 8am at Mhasla taluka when the bus fell off the road about 50 feet down and turned turtle.

The bus carrying 36 passengers was plying from Virar to Shrivardhan when the driver lost control.

The injured were rushed to a local government rural hospital, sub-district hospital in Mangaon and the MGM hospital in Navi Mumbai.

“The occupants were returning home from Virar in a private bus. In the slope section of the Ghonse Ghat, the bus driver lost control leading to the mishap" said Uddhav Surve, assistant police inspector, Mhasla.

“Three of the severely injured have been sent to the MGM hospital in Navi Mumbai for treatment. The injured have sustained injuries on their head, legs, hands,” added Surve.

The police were confirming the identities of the deceased. Locals also joined the rescue operation.
