Maharashtra: 280 govt orders in four days, 'most by departments of rebel ministers'

MUMBAI: Notwithstanding the political instability in the state following the revolt by Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde on Tuesday, the MVA government led by CM Uddhav Thackeray has taken 280 decisions since Monday.

"On an average, the government is issuing 25 to 30 decisions. In the last four days, 280 orders have been issued. Most of them pertain to departments controlled by cabinet members who have now joined hands with Eknath Shinde. It is estimated that a provision of Rs 1,600 crore will be required to implement these decisions," said a senior official.

It seems that the rebel cabinet members ensured that all relevant orders are issued before they leave Mumbai, the official added. "They took proper care: orders have been issued and adequate budgetary provisions made for the purpose.''

Provisions have been made for Rs 1,200 crore for providing power at a concessional rate for industrial consumers in the backward areas in Vidarbha, Marathwada and north Maharashtra. Provisions have also been made for distribution of bulk water to private housing societies. As many as 18 decisions have been taken by the water supply department controlled by rebel minister Gulabrao Patil.

"Administrative approval has been granted to several water supply schemes in the rural parts of the state," said the official, adding: "In addition, a contribution of Rs 249 crore has been made for the Pune-Nashik rail route as contribution of the state government.''

The agriculture department headed by Dada Bhuse, who has also joined Shinde, has taken half a dozen decisions. A scan of the government website showed, among others, the medical education department has approved the building of a girls' hostel for the Nanded medical college and a retaining wall around the college. A committee has been set up for detection of bogus veterinary doctors.

Another GR pertains to introduction of online recruitment system for the cooperative banks in the state.
