Maharashtra: 1,000 electric buses, 2,000 CNG buses for MSRTC this year

MUMBAI: The MSRTC on Friday announced that it will launch 1,000 electric buses across the state this year while it is already in the process of bringing 2,000 new CNG buses on roads soon.

A senior MSRTC official said that the fleet had over 18,000 diesel buses, but this was being gradually replaced by 'green' buses.

State transport minister and MSRTC chairman Anil Parab held a meeting of senior officials of the bus corporation on Friday, directing them to revive the bus services across the state.

"We have already incurred huge losses due to the five month strike by workers. It is time we restarted operations in a big way, launched more routes, introduced more buses during summer holidays and also cater to the student population once schools reopen in June," he said. An official said that over 90% of the workers were back at 250 bus depots.
