Maguire and Malacia start in predicted Manchester United line-up vs Melbourne Victory

Erik ten Hag must decide whether to stick or twist when naming his Manchester United team for the pre-season outing against Melbourne Victory on Friday afternoon UK time (12pm start).

During the summer opener - against main rivals Liverpool in Bangkok - manager Ten Hag opted for experience to start with as his squad put in an eye-catching performance to earn their 4-0 victory. Jadon Sancho, Fred, Anthony Martial and Facundo Pellistri were on target.

With the game sewn up, United turned to youth and presented welcome opportunities to fringe players. But will they get the nod first up when getting down to business at the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground?

Retained captain Harry Maguire was not risked against Liverpool due to a 'minor' knock. However, the £80million man was spotted going through some shuttle runs at the Rajamangala Stadium and Ten Hag passed him fit when sitting down for his first pre-match press conference in Australia.

United go on to play Crystal Palace and Aston Villa down under before finishing off their tour in Norway. Maguire comes back into the reckoning and will almost certainly start in defence, but there are question marks over David de Gea with Tom Heaton ready to deputise.

Ten Hag and United are still in the market for a backup goalkeeper to offset Dean Henderson leaving on loan.

After coming off the subs bench for his debut in Thailand, new signing Tyrell Malacia could also make his first start with Luke Shaw expected to make way, while Eric Bailly and Donny van de Beek are best-placed to break into Ten Hag's plans for the Friday showdown against A-League opponents.

Manchester United predicted line-up vs Melbourne Victory (4-2-3-1): Heaton; Dalot, Maguire, Bailly, Malacia; Fred, McTominay; Sancho, Van de Beek, Rashford; Martial.
