Troubled Collingwood star Jordan De Goey may be able to face a New York court virtually, paving the way for his imminent return to Australia.
De Goey is in the United States where he is facing assault charges, stemming from a Halloween-themed party in October.
The 25-year-old is charged with punching and kicking a 37-year-old man at a glitzy Manhattan nightclub.
De Goey's next court date is set for December 8.
But the stood down Magpies ace and his lawyer Jacob Kaplan are trying to have the case heard online.
After De Goey was charged by the New York Police Department, he returned to California where he has been training with Johnny Louch at the W Training Facility.
The Magpies will wait for the legal process to play out before making a decision on whether to permanently sever ties with the 118-game forward/midfielder.
"There is the opportunity, if the court case actually goes to court, that he could do that via Zoom," Collingwood football boss Graham Wright told 3AW.
"We've stood him down so that behaviour over a period of time has found us in a situation where we felt it was the right thing to do three or four weeks ago.
"It's a concern that he's found himself in a situation, which in the best scenario is he's been in New York and got into a bar fight that seen him arrested, regardless of what happens with the court case.
"We're really disappointed in it ... until we get face-to-face with him and see where the court case goes, we're in that holding pattern."
New York police withdrew initial charges alleging De Goey had forcibly touched a woman during the nightclub incident.
De Goey was only able to leave Australia under a permit due to his sponsorship and work arrangements with Monster Energy.
