NEW YORK _ The Orlando Magic were poised for a big road victory in Brooklyn on Wednesday night.
Then they couldn't hit the shots they needed to down the stretch and left with another agonizing defeat.
Spencer Dinwiddie scored a game-high 29 points and D'Angelo Russell had 23 as the Nets held off the Magic 114-110 at Barclays Center.
Nikola Vucevic finished with 21 points and 14 rebounds, and D.J. Augustin had 19 points for the Magic, who managed just three field goals during the final 6:10.
But they still had a chance, thanks in part to their free-throw shooting.
Terrence Ross hit two free throws _ making the Magic 23-of-28 from the foul line at that point _ with 21.7 seconds left to get Orlando within 112-110.
Rodions Kurucs, who came into the game as a 91.7 percent free-throw shooter, made one of two free throws on the ensuing Nets' possession to make it 112-110.
Evan Fournier beat Jarrett Allen to the basket for a left-handed layup attempt, but the ball rolled off the rim and Vucevic tipped it in. But the officials ruled Vucevic touched the ball while it was still in the cylinder, resulting in offensive-basket interference and nullifying the tally.
Russell then converted two free throws to seal it as the Nets beat the Magic for the second time in six days.
Aaron Gordon returned to the Magic's starting lineup after missing the past two games with a lower back injury. He finished with 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting and six rebounds during 24 minutes of play.
The Magic return home Friday to face the Washington Wizards for a 7 p.m. game at Amway Center. The game can be seen on Fox Sports Florida.
