Magic squander 19-point lead in loss at Denver

DENVER _ The Orlando Magic couldn't make a 19-point lead hold up as they fell 113-104 to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night at Pepsi Center.

Nikola Vucevic finished with 20 points, but just four in the second half, to lead Orlando (12-16), which has now lost eight straight to Denver.

D.J. Augustin scored 18 points while Evan Fournier had 13 and Markelle Fultz had 10 for the Magic, who were finishing the second game of a back-to-back set. They lost 109-102 on Tuesday in Utah.

Jamal Murray finished with a game-high 33 points while Nikola Jokic had 18 points, 12 assists and 9 rebounds for the Nuggets (18-8).

The Magic opened up a 16-point lead at 57-41 with a 21-5 run in the second quarter as they scored on nine of 11 possessions in that stretch.

Augustin recorded 10 points to key the burst. He knocked down two 3-pointers, went 4-of-4 from the free-throw line and delivered an on-target pass to Vucevic for an easy layup.

At one point, Augustin had accounted for 60.9% of the team's points in the quarter (10 points and four points created from two assists).

The Magic looked like they might cruise to the road win when they built a 19-point lead (69-50) early in the third quarter.

But the Nuggets erased the deficit _ and then some _ with a 34-7 run over the final 9:11 of the quarter. The burst reached 24-0 at one point.

A Mo Bamba dunk at the 3:06 mark ended a 6:32 scoreless stretch for the Magic, who missed 13 consecutive shots and committed three turnovers during the drought.

But the Nuggets weren't done scoring. Two Gary Harris free throws put Denver ahead 81-71 at the 1:22 mark of the third quarter.

Orlando closed within 98-96 before Denver pulled away down the stretch.

The Magic travel to Portland to face the Trail Blazers on Friday to finish off their four-game road trip against Western Conference opponents.
