The Orlando Magic reached a deal late Friday afternoon to add some scoring punch, agreeing with forward Jeff Green on a one-year contract worth $15 million, an NBA source confirmed to the Orlando Sentinel.
Green averaged 11.7 points and 4.2 rebounds per game this past season in combined action for the Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Clippers.
It's unclear how Green, 29, will fit into the Magic's rotation.
It appears he will compete with Aaron Gordon for the starting small forward job or come off the bench, assuming that Serge Ibaka starts at power forward and Nikola Vucevic starts at center.
When the Magic go with a smaller frontcourt, Green could play small forward while Gordon shifts to power forward and Ibaka moves to center.
Green also can play power forward.
The deal was reported first by USA Today Sports.
The Magic were active on Friday. They reached an agreement to re-sign swingman Evan Fournier and reached an agreement with point guard D.J. Augustin.
Then, they received a commitment from Green.
No free-agent contracts can be signed until July 7, the day the NBA moratorium is lifted.
Originally drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics, Green has played for four different franchises.
The Magic will be his fifth.
Signing Green to a one-year deal instead of a multi-year deal will help Orlando maintain some cap flexibility for the summer of 2017.
