LAS VEGAS _ The Orlando Magic re-signed forward Aaron Gordon on Friday, a few hours after the NBA lifted its annual July moratorium on free-agent signings.
The team did not release terms of its agreement with Gordon, but the contract will be for four seasons, without any options or opt-outs for either side, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
The contract has been said to be worth about $84 million in total, but full figures have not become available yet in databases that track NBA salaries. According to a source, Gordon's salaries will decrease year over year _ a structure that benefits Gordon because it would enable him to invest more of his money upfront and benefits the Magic because it would reduce the team's salary cap burdens in future summers.
Gordon posted the best statistical season of his four-year NBA career in 2017-18. He averaged career highs of 17.6 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. After a torrid start with his long-range accuracy, he finished the season shooting a career-best 33.6 percent from beyond the arc.
The Magic drafted Gordon fourth overall in 2014, and the team could not afford to lose him in restricted free agency.
Despite the signing of Gordon and Friday's signings of Isaiah Briscoe and Melvin Frazier Jr., the Magic still have their non-taxpayer mid-level exception of $8.6 million available, plus minimum salary exceptions, to use to fill out their roster.
