Magic Johnson’s resignation on Tuesday night as the Los Angeles Lakers’ president was a huge shock.
His impromptu press conference that stole the spotlight a bit from Dirk Nowitzki and Dwyane Wade might have been just as surprising.
There was the fact that he was telling the media first and not his boss, Lakers owner Jeannie Buss. There was the revelation that he was worried about giving bad news to Luke Walton, who is probably out of a job as the team’s head coach after a disappointing season, just a year after LeBron James donned the purple and gold.
And then there was this quote that ended with Johnson laughing:
“I’ve been talking to people … about next year, and I’m sitting there saying, ‘I’m not gonna be here!'”
