Magic Johnson is excited about what’s happened to Los Angeles basketball in the last several hours. The former Lakers president of basketball operations praised the free-agency moves made by not only his former team but also by the Los Angeles Clippers.
Around 2 a.m. ET, news broke that Kawhi Leonard is joining the Clippers, along with Paul George in a trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder.
And later Saturday, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that DeMarcus Cousins agreed to a one-year deal with the Lakers for $3.5 million, reuniting with his former New Orleans Pelicans teammate Anthony Davis. With all those moves in a matter of hours, Magic likes what he sees.
Also Saturday, Woj and Ramona Shelburne reported that Rajon Rondo, who played with Cousins and Davis in New Orleans, agreed to a two-year deal. Magic likes that too.
Despite resigning as Lakers team president in April, Magic has repeatedly commented on the Lakers’ subsequent transactions. He congratulated Lakers GM Rob Pelinka and the team after they signed Davis last month.
