The Orlando Magic have hired the Milwaukee Bucks' John Hammond to work as their general manager under new president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman.
Hammond headed the Bucks' basketball operations department for the last nine seasons as the Bucks' general manager. The Bucks reached the playoffs four times during Hammond's tenure in Milwaukee, including this past season.
"John brings tremendous experience and is a great talent evaluator," Weltman said in a statement released by the Magic.
"He has experience in everything from day-to-day operations to player development. He built a great team in Milwaukee, and won a championship while in Detroit. We are very fortunate to have him as part of the Magic family."
Hammond, who is 62, won the NBA Executive of the Year Award for the 2009-10 season.
Weltman worked alongside Hammond during the 2007-08 season with the Detroit Pistons and worked under Hammond for the next five seasons as the Bucks' assistant general manager.
The Magic hired Weltman on Monday. Hammond is Weltman's first hire with Orlando.
Matt Lloyd, a holdover from Rob Hennigan's five-year Magic tenure, headed the Magic's basketball operations department since Hennigan was fired on April 13.
Lloyd spent Tuesday overseeing the Magic's morning and afternoon draft-prospect workouts.
