ORLANDO, Fla. _ The Magic didn't need Markelle Fultz to play downhill, but that didn't stop the point guard from contributing offensively.
He just went ahead and made shots.
So did teammate Nikola Vucevic, who was in the right spot when Fultz first missed a shot.
Fultz made his first six field-goal attempts _ including two from 3-point range _ and finished with a season-high 19 points while Vucevic poured in a season-high 30 points as the Magic held on to beat the Washington Wizards 125-121 on Sunday at Amway Center.
When Fultz first missed a shot _ a 3-point attempt from the right wing in the third quarter _ Vucevic was there to grab the errant shot that didn't draw iron. Vucevic somehow muscled his way up past Wizards center Thomas Bryant for a layup.
Fultz finished 8-of-10 from the field and added a clutch three-point play in the final minute.
Evan Fournier finished with 25 points, Terrence Ross had 15 and D.J. Augustin and Aaron Gordon had 13 apiece as the Magic (6-7) put six players in double figures and reached 100 points for the sixth consecutive game.
Vucevic also had a season-high 17 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season.
The win was the Magic's third straight as they finished off a five-game homestand with a 4-1 mark.
Bradley Beal scored a game-high 34 points to lead the Wizards (3-8). C.J. Miles had 21 points and Davis Bertans had 15 for the Wizards.
The Magic were cruising after a baseline jumper by Gordon put them ahead 95-77 with 10:06 to play. But the Wizards _ behind a combined 11 points from Miles and Moritz Wagner _ pulled within 97-91. The Magic responded with three free throws by Ross, a 3 by Vucevic and a 3 by Fournier to regain control with a 9-0 run.
The Wizards wouldn't go away, thanks to Beal and their 3-point shooting. The Magic led 117-110 with 1:25 to play when Beal hit 3s on back-to-back possessions _ the second after a Magic turnover _ to close the deficit to one with 1:01 to play.
Vucevic sank two free throws on the Magic's ensuing possession, then came arguably the biggest play of the game.
Fultz tipped a pass away for a steal, then threw down a two-handed dunk as he fouled by Bertans. Fultz sank the free throw with 36.1 seconds left for a 122-116 lead.
The Magic gave up an uncontested dunk to Bryant before Fournier was fouled. He hit one of two attempts to make it a two-possession game with 24.6 seconds left.
Then Beal misfired on a 3 attempt from the wing and Gordon grabbed the miss. After being fouled, Gordon hit both free throws to make it 125-118 and Orlando held on for the win.
It was a bit of a dicey first half for the Magic in terms of personnel. They lost Michael Carter-Williams to a left hip strain early in the second quarter before Augustin missed the final five minutes after dislocating a finger on his left hand.
Augustin returned to play nearly 12 minutes in the second half while Carter-Williams did not return.
The Magic will hit the road for their next four games, starting Wednesday in Toronto. The game tips off at 7:30 p.m. and will air on Fox Sports Florida.
The Magic then travel to Indiana, Detroit and Cleveland to close out the road trip.
