Magic come up short against Thunder as losing streak hits three

OKLAHOMA CITY _ A turnover. A missed shot. A foul.

Every time the Orlando Magic needed to build just a little bit more momentum, it seemed like they couldn't quite make the play they needed.

Those little plays added up in the end as the Oklahoma City Thunder held off the Magic for a 102-94 win Tuesday night at Chesapeake Energy Arena.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 24 points to lead the Thunder (3-4). Chris Paul scored 20 points, including eight in the fourth quarter, and Danilo Gallinari had 16 for the hosts.

Aaron Gordon led the Magic (2-5) with 15 points. Jonathan Isaac, Al Farouq-Aminu and D.J. Augustin each had 13 for Orlando, which absorbed its third straight loss.

The Thunder outscored the Magic 36-9 from the 3-point line to more than offset the Magic's 27-11 edge from the free-throw line.

The Magic trailed 88-87 in the fourth quarter before the Thunder scored the next six points. The Magic missed a 3, turned the ball over after a timeout, then turned it over again after an offensive foul on Gordon.

Paul followed Gordon's turnover with a short baseline jumper to put the Thunder up 95-87 and essentially seal the win.

The Magic's second unit outscored the Thunder's 24-14 in the first half, with Augustin (8), Aminu (7) and Mo Bamba (7) combining for 22 of those points.

Their play helped offset a combined eight points by Nikola Vucevic and Evan Fournier. Vucevic was 2-of-8 from the field, while Fournier managed just two free throws and was 0-of-2 from the field.

Vucevic wound up with 10 points on 4-of-15 shooting from the field, while Fournier was 0-of-7, getting his four points on free throws.

The Magic close out their first road back-to-back set of the season Wednesday night in Dallas against the Mavericks. The game tips off at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time and will air on Fox Sports Florida.
