BOSTON _ The Orlando Magic had few answers for Boston's Gordon Hayward and Jayson Tatum as the two combined for 56 points to help lead the Celtics to a 116-100 victory on Wednesday night at TD Garden.
Evan Fournier tied a season-high with six 3-pointers and scored 26 points to lead the Magic (22-29). Aaron Gordon finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds while Terrence Ross had 18 points and Michael Carter-Williams scored 12.
Nikola Vucevic totaled 12 points and 10 rebounds for his team-best 25th double-double of the season.
Tatum poured in 33 points while Hayward finished with 23 points _ 17 in the second half _ to lead the Celtics (35-15), who played without leading scorer Kemba Walker.
Orlando fell to 0-2 against Boston this season.
The Celtics led 101-91 _ the biggest lead of the game to that point _ after a Jaylen Brown dunk with 6:31 to play. The Magic closed within six after a 3 from Fournier and two free throws from Gordon and had a chance to get closer after forcing a turnover. But the Magic gave it right back on a turnover and Hayward followed by making a fallaway jumper.
Two possessions later, Grant Williams put back a Brown miss to push the lead back to nine with 3:08 to play. The lead reached 13, at 111-98, when Tatum buried a 3 from the corner with 1:46 to play.
It was nine-point deficit with 9:43 remaining in the first half before the Magic outscored the Celtics 22-13 over the next 7:33 and tied the game at 53 on a Markelle Fultz layup. Orlando went into halftime trailing by one.
The Magic return to action Thursday night at Madison Square Garden when they take on the New York Knicks. The game tips off at 7:30 p.m. It will complete Orlando's ninth back-to-back set of the season.
