Magic can't stop C.J. McCollum, suffer blowout loss to Trail Blazers

ORLANDO, Fla. _ The Orlando Magic didn't have to deal with Portland all-star guard Damian Lillard. Turns out, C.J. McCollum was more than enough for the Magic to handle.

McCollum tied a season-high with 41 points as the Trail Blazers beat the Magic 130-107 on Monday night at Amway Center.

The loss was just the second straight for the Magic (27-34), who allowed 130 for the second time this season. The Rockets scored 130 on Dec. 13.

Nikola Vucevic tied a season-high with 30 points to lead Orlando. Terrence Ross finished with 23 points and Evan Fournier had 13 for the Magic, who played without starting forward Aaron Gordon. He missed the game with inflammation in his right knee.

Portland, meanwhile, faced Orlando without Lillard, who was recovering from a groin injury.

Gary Trent Jr. added 24 points and Hassan Whiteside had 16 points and 13 rebounds for Portland (27-35), which swept the two-game season series.

The Magic got within 96-90 after a pull-up jumper by Mo Bamba before the Trail Blazers went on a 25-11 run over the next 7:13 of the fourth quarter to seize control.

McCollum finished with 15 points in the quarter as Portland outscored Orlando 38-19.

After falling behind 7-0, the Magic went on a 17-4 run behind 10 points from Vucevic.

But the lead didn't last long as Portland regained control with a 15-4 run over a 3:33 stretch.

Ross scored 10 straight points for the Magic to keep them close, and his layup with 7:06 left in the second quarter pulled them within 49-47.

But the Magic managed just 11 points the rest of the half and found themselves down 69-58. It was Portland's biggest lead of the game to that point.

From a defensive standpoint, it was a first half to forget for the Magic.

Portland's 69 points were the most allowed by the Magic in the first half this season, and McCollum's 17 points in the first quarter were the most by an individual Magic opponent in the first quarter this season.

Gordon, meanwhile, said the inflammation appeared Monday morning and he hopes to return for Wednesday's game in Miami against the Heat.

Wednesday's game tips off at 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Florida.
