Magherafelt woman wins Tayto Big Cheese Award for going the extra mile for the community during Covid

A Magherafelt woman has won a Tayto Big Cheese Award for going the extra mile for her community during the coronavirus pandemic.

Margaret McKee was nominated by friend and colleague Paula Coleman for her contribution to the local community.

She's one of seven people throughout Northern Ireland who have won a Big Cheese award with Tayto this year.

The 61-year-old was redeployed onto a coronavirus hospital ward, and kept spirits high for both staff and patients throughout the pandemic.

The Big Cheese Awards were developed by Tayto to help shout about the champions of Northern Ireland and give them the recognition they deserve for being a shining star and supporting so many others throughout a difficult year.

They were designed to show appreciation for local superheroes in the community, who have unselfishly supported others throughout a very difficult year.

The last fifteen months have been challenging for everyone and during this time some people have stepped up to the mark and for their family, friends and neighbours and this should be celebrated, Tayto believes.

When nominating Margaret, Paula said: “A very young 61 year old who is full of live best describes Margaret. She is a great friend and colleague to everyone around her and is always there to lean on when you need to. As well as working full time, Margaret is a mother to 3 children and has 8 grandchildren who she always puts before herself.”

“During the pandemic, Margaret was redeployed from Occupational Therapy onto the Covid ward and brought so much light and positivity for all the staff and patients.

"She will always go the extra mile and is rarely leaving work on time but never complains. The patients, families and staff on her ward love to see her coming as she is full of fun, dancing and usually has delicious baked treats to cheer everyone up,” Paula continued.
